For as long as I can recall I have loved the written word. The very idea of words and meanings, marks on a page that reveal knowledge, adventure, intrigue, horror, fills me with an excitement I can neither define nor quantify.
I was fortunate to grow up in a home where, though not plentiful, there were always books around, and always books by my parents’ bedside. At Primary and Secondary school I was a library monitor, and went on to study librarianship at Strathclyde. Before studying education I worked in a college library and later gained an MA in English literature, researching children’s poetry in the Victorian period.
