Railway poster 2022
Just two days free trial to go and I decided to design and create a poster featuring our local, and iconic, Welsh Highland Railway. The new station building was opened a few years ago, and shares its setting with the imposing Caernarfon Castle. I’ve included my favourite engine ‘Number 87’ to complete the scene showcasing all that I love about my town.
I’ve tried to be faithful to the old minimalist railway poster style, whilst manipulating the position and perspective of the three main components to create a harmony of colour, line, and tone. As with all creative endeavours, it is not 100% there but as the wonderful Tom Keating used to say as he put down his brushes and turned to camera, “That’s all I can do for now. Thank you.”

I can see you’re really enjoying this and getting a lot out of it. Will you buy the app now to continue? Is it £8 approx? I still think your earliest ones were the best, and to my untutored eye this one doesn’t quite cut the mustard. I’d like more of the castle, more of the engine and less “blank space”. But, I didn’t like the Mona Lisa either so what do I know!
Oh dear The ‘blank space’ is the glass and metal facade of the new station building! It was met with very mixed – polarised – reviews. I guess you’d be in the ‘what was the architect and planning committee thinking?’ side. I actually turned the building so as to include the red doorway. As to cost, it’s a program rather than an app, so more than £8 although a lot less than the likes of Adobe Illustrator. It’s also a one-off cost while Adobe is subscription. M
😬 oops!
Are you using a laptop?
No, I use a Dell PC. Our laptop isn’t option as I still need a regular keyboard and mouse. I tend to use that more for text documents with ‘speech to text’ facility. More likely though to record and transcribe which is a great feature of Windows 365. M
Ah, I asked because that explains the higher cost for the app/programme. As an app to use on an iPad it’s about £8.
BTW I agree that ML does not live up to the hype. Smaller than expected. I got fed up waiting to get close enough to see properly, wandered off and found some exquisite David’s and Ingres’s. They really could paint. M
